A Statement from the Artist (cont.)
Modern architecture uses materials so far transformed and transported, that the relationship becomes somewhat lost. I try to include characteristics of the ancient and the mysterious within the structures I conceive, along with an organic style that mimics the surroundings. In these works I hope to display a vision of the future in which our understanding and respect of the environment surrounding us is displayed in our architecture and representational of our overall attitude towards our planet.
Ansel Adams hoped that by circulating his photographs of the Sierra Nevada and Yosemite, he would foster a widespread respect and admiration for these wondrous and beautiful places that might lead to greater efforts to conserve them. In my works, I hope to accomplish a similar effect, if on a more humble scale. Within these images the natural landscape remains the most important facet. As much as we try to control and manipulate our environment, we still are at the mercy of our natural world. No structure built by us can reach the mass and expanse, nor match the beauty, of the planet that birthed us and our innovations. By juxtaposing these structures with an environment they mimic, or simply by capturing the size of a mountain relative to its surroundings, I hope to convey this message of symbiosis and further our collective respect for the natural world – the origin of mankind and all of our magnificent creations.
